Trend How-To: Bright Blue

Feeling blue? You’re not the only one. A myriad of designers seemed to be feeling the same thing when designing their A/W 2011/12 collections, but don’t think it had anything to do with being down in the dumps – the blues that electrified many collections this season were anything but subdued.

Whether it was an accent or an entire ensemble, shocking blue illuminated runways around the globe. Wear it bright and bold with aplomb to match – this brilliant blue hue says anything but wallflower. Wear it alone for a dynamic look, team with black to achieve high impact edginess, or colour block it with lighter shades of blue and aqua for a more playful approach. 

There is a bright blue to suit just about everyone, but if you’d rather work the trend with a bit more subtlety, opt for accessorising with it instead. Elvis made his suede pair famous and now blue shoes are popping up everywhere. Hats and bags are also a great way of injecting this colour into your outfit.

Blake Lively, Jessica Alba and SJP all know how to jazz it up with the blues, so give your wardrobe some shock therapy and rock one of fall’s hottest trends.
