To Tan Or Not To Tan?

Skin Type 4 – Caramel, tanned or medium brown (ie Jessica Alba)

Skin will tan easily and rarely burn

Verdict:  Skin type 4 are usually sun worshippers who can’t wait to hit the beach or the deckchair each summer.  The beautiful caramel tones that richen with sun exposure are the envy of every beach goer.  To slow the ageing process, prevent pigmentation and protect collagen, at least SPF 15+ should be part of your everyday skin care regime.

Skin Type 5 – Bronze or rich brown (ie Beyonce)

Skin will tan profusely without burning

Verdict:  Summer is also a lot of fun for skin type 5.  You will develop a tan on the very first day that will deepen very quickly.  Although you have natural skin protecting factors always apply at least SPF 15+ when outside.  Also be mindful of post inflammatory pigmentation if undertaking cosmetic procedures.

Skin Type 6 – Mahogany, espresso or black (ie Lupita Nyong’o)

Skin never burns and will tan very quickly

Verdict:  Whilst you may not visibly burn, your skin will darken very quickly in the sun and is still susceptible to damaging ageing effects. An SPF 15+ is recommended whenever you’re outside.

I wish I could stop using fake tan all the time, but ever since I’ve started using St Tropez I feel like my tan looks so much more natural and it even smells nice when applying.

I would think most people should avoid tanning, given the risk of skin damage.

I think I have the skin colour of Demi but definitely not anything like her personality.

I have caramel skin AND freckles. I tan in like 1 second BUT am definitely very susceptible to sun damage.
