Tegan Martin is a Newcastle girl with a shiny future. Crowned Miss Universe Australia in June of this year, Tegan is about to compete in the Miss Universe 2014 pageant (actually held in January 2015!)
The 21 year old blonde stunner, who is also a former hairdresser and make up artist (didn’t those skills come in handy) shares some interesting secrets about how she stays fit and healthy…
TIP #1. Replace your pre-workout energy drink or your afternoon slump coffee with a glass of fresh
organic unsweetened cranberry juice, with a shot of wheatgrass or barley grass. You’ll have
an instant energy kick and in the long term, your body will love you for it.
TIP #2. If you have trouble losing weight or there are certain parts of your body that are resistant to
diet and exercise, try eliminating dairy and sugars.
TIP #3. Use coconut oil instead of other oils when possible. It is metabolised straight into energy
rather than storing as fat. It’s also a great sweet fix – I have a tablespoon everyday and I
have it with a slice of toasted rice loaf for a sweet treat.
TIP #4. Take a probiotic. I started taking Progurt, which I’ve found has upped my energy levels, my
skin is clearer, I don’t have tired eyes and I have much less bloating.
TIP #5. Start your day with a warm glass of water and lemon juice or apple cider vinegar – this will
really kick-start your metabolism and works wonders on your digestive tract. I also drizzle
apple cider vinegar on my salads to aid digestion.
TIP #6. Eat plenty of white fish. It is rich in vitamins and minerals and is much easier for the
digestive system to break down than any other form of fish or meat.
TIP #7. Chlorophyll – put two tablespoons in a 1.5Litre bottle of water to sip on throughout the
day. I also keep a 1L drink bottle on me, so as to ensure I drink enough water and stay
TIP #8. Exercise less, eat less. Sometimes we over exercise, which in turn makes us eat more for
energy. I find when I keep my exercise to 30mins a day – depending on the intensity of the
workout – I get the best results. I alternate between walking, running, light weights, yoga
TIP #9. Replace your social coffee dates with green juice dates. Green juices are my super healing
secret. They reduce inflammation in the body and do wonders for your digestion. I make
sure I have at least one green juice per day – NOT as a meal replacement though.
TIP #10. Choose the right shoe. The endless parties over summer mean dressing up for the occasion; however, constantly wearing high heels can affect your posture and lead to nerve damage.
Swap your heels for a pair of flats or wedges where appropriate. My current favourites are
an espadrilles or a wedge.
