Steal Their Style: Celebrity Engagement Rings

engagement ring

It’s always exciting to hear of a celebrity getting engaged. Such is our access to them through Instagram or Twitter that we really feel like they’re part of our circle of friends!

But even more exciting is to check out the rock. What shape is it? Is it tasteful or not? And, of course, that most Hollywood of questions – how BIG is it?

Our first celebrity to come under the jeweller’s loupe is Amal Clooney. Amal was presented with a beautiful emerald cut diamond engagement ring, with diamond baguettes on each ring shank.

The ring, set in platinum, is said to weigh a whopping 7 carats and cost around $750, 000. Well, George did wait a long time to find his perfect bride so he had clearly been saving! And accordingly to Beyond4Cs.com’s article about 7ct diamonds, the diamond is likely to be of extremely high quality for this price point.

What we like about this ring is that we don’t see it very often as a style of engagement ring. Of course, the style itself is not new but many brides, be they Hollywood or ‘civilians’, often prefer the round brilliant cut, cushion cut or princess cut styles. However, Amal is very much a breath of fresh air style-wise, and it looks like that translates to her engagement ring.

Our next celebrity ring-wearer is Scarlett Johansson. This particular ring seen here on Scarlett was for her first engagement to Ryan Reynolds, rather than her later one to now-husband and father of her child, Romain Dauriac.

Scarlett is wearing a round brilliant cut diamond engagement ring in a four claw setting, with channel-set round brilliant cut diamonds around the entire band.  This ring is a far more modest 3 carats, (well, modest compared to Amal’s!) and let’s not forget that the small diamonds around the ring band would make up a good proportion of that number.

In terms of price, Scarlett’s ring was reputed to cost $30,000 – which is definitely not insignificant. As styles go, it is certainly a very popular one but surprisingly, not often seen in Hollywoodland!

Finally we move on to Natalie Portman. Natalie is definitely one of the style-leaders in Hollywood, and her engagement ring is no exception. Natalie’s engagement ring is a delicate double halo engagement ring with a pave diamond band. A total of 4 carats, it’s certainly on the larger end of the engagement ring scale but like Ms Portman, presents in a less showy fashion.

Said to cost $35,000, the ring is in the bounds of what some of us mere mortals could consider an acceptable price!

Halo rings, and even double halos, are certainly very on-trend. They have a certain Art Deco quality to them, yet remain modern at the same time. What I like about this ring is its contrasts. Its delicate appearance reminds me of a beautiful flower – but as we all know, diamonds are the hardest material known to man or woman!

Getting your hands on these beautiful creations is now easy with many jewellers’ ability to create exact replicas and customised pieces such as the engagement rings by Dracakis. Their collection of engagement rings will rival those worn by Hollywood stars.

Chunky rings are great as ‘dress rings’ but maybe not so great for everyday wear – which is what you really want your engagment ring for.

I actually think a lot of “big” rings are quite ugly. These ones are nice, though that rectangular one might not be too practical for everyday.
