DIY Detox – Prepare Your Body and Liver For Spring!

Written By: Emily Veness

The health benefits of detoxing are well known, with improvements to energy levels, skin, digestion and general well-being all common outcomes of any detoxification regime. Detoxes vary widely from the very intense (think ‘Master Cleanses’ prescribed via a health practicioner) to the simple ones you can do at home whenever you want to refresh and recharge. With winter behind us, and the festivities of summer looming ahead, spring makes the perfect time to start rejuvenating and detoxing – and it doesn’t matter how light or intense you wish to go with it.

We’ve put together 2 easy DIY detox ideas to help you prepare mind and body for the months to come.

BODY

Treat yourself to a little at home spa treatment with a therapeutic detox bath.

What you’ll need:

2 cups Epsom salts

2 cups sea salt

6 drops of essential oils of your choice.

Instructions:

Add the ingredients to the bath as it’s filling, ensuring the water is hot. The hot water will draw toxins to the surface of the skin, and then as the water cools, toxins are expelled. Sea salt is very cleansing for your skin while Epsom salts are brilliant as they will make you sweat, thereby augmenting the detox process.

Essential oils can be chosen based on your bath-time needs, natural detoxifiers are tea tree and lemongrass, while known soothers include marjoram, lavender, jasmine and sandalwood. It might sound indulgent, but you deserve it.

Ahh, bath time.. Put your feet up and recharge!

LIVER

Coupled with a healthy balanced diet, drinking this detoxifying tea will boost a sluggish system and improve circulation of blood and energy to the liver.

What you’ll need:

dandelion root

ginger root

chicory

Instructions:

In a small saucepan, mix four teaspoons of the dried herbal mixture in four cups of water. Bring to a boil. Simmer for 20 minutes, covered. Drink one cup, three times per day. You can refrigerate the tea to keep it fresh between servings. The tea is slightly bitter, but delicious, so you can enjoy it while doing your liver a favour.

Following these steps to detox your skin, body, liver and hair will have you feeling renewed inside and out, ready for spring!

Thanks for the article. Don’t think I’ve ever done any real detoxing before. My way to give my body a break is to eat light and healthy food for a certain period of time.
