My Smile Makeover At Pitt Street Dental Centre

BY: VANESSA ROBERTS

Despite knowing full well that our smiles are one of the best accessories we can have, why is it that so many of us scrimp and skip when it comes to our oral health?

Sure, it’s one thing to brush twice a day, floss occasionally and whiten religiously.. but is it really enough? Of course that depends on the individual, but for most of us, swapping those dentist appointments in favour of say, shoes, isn’t the wisest game to play in the long run.

I’ve always thought of myself as a pretty conscientious person in the dental department, though I was shocked recently when I actually couldn’t remember the last time I made the trip to my dentist – eek!

Fortuitously, Pitt Street Dental Centre in Sydney recently reached out to me to see if I was interested in reviewing any of their services, and given my need for a dental check-up I thought, why not.

(We’ve also tee’d up an exclusive offer for Breakfast With Audrey readers…more on that later.)

My treatment:

1) A general dental check up and clean.

2) Philps Zoom QuickPro Whitening treatment (this is a brand new booster version of this popular treatment, that’s just been released to the market.)

About Pitt Street Dental Centre

Pitt Street Dental Centre instantly struck me as a premium and luxuriously appointed clinic that blends day spa with dentistry. The plush and hushed waiting room is a haven for clients (especially those caught in a Sydney cyclone like I was!) Practice manager Valerie exudes a discreet and professional manner which emanates throughout the entire clinic.

The waiting room alone is worth a visit. It’s decked with magazines, candles, aromatherapy oils and complimentary beverages. The clinic is favoured by local professionals and celebrities (Channel 7 is virtually next door) so you never know who you’ll bump into!

Pitt Street Dental Centre are specialists in Invisalign and Philips Zoom Teeth Whitening though they perform all varieties of general dentistry and cosmetic too. The great thing about the practice is they offer dentistry to all budgets and have payment plans available- too easy! The practice offers dentistry to all budgets and payment plans are available.

My Experience:

My general check up + clean was efficient and painless. I don’t think I’ve had such a gentle dental hygienist work on me before, so it was really quite a breeze! The hygienist communicated throughout, giving me informative tips and knowledge about oral hygiene all along the way.

For instance, I learned I had not been flossing nearly often enough, and that my toothbrush was too hard (who knew?) From now I’ll be flossing daily and brushing with a softer brush (and with my non-dominant hand – it’s not as rough.)

Thankfully there were no red flags to report so I underwent the usual manual clean and a fluoride treatment. I was given a little goodie bag of samples, floss and a new soft toothbrush to take home!

The Philips Zoom QuickPro Teeth Whitening was offered to me as a “top up” treatment given that I had undergone the full Philips Zoom Instant in chair treatment a year prior. This new booster/ top up express version builds upon earlier whitening treatments meaning you can get in and get out quickly, with great results and less time and expense.

As with any whitening procedure, your mouth does get a little filled up with gadgets but the dental hygienist administering the treatment was courteous and careful not to cause any discomfort. After prepping the area, she applied a whitening varnish to the teeth (much like a nail varnish.) This was left to dry for only a short time and before I knew it, the whole thing was over!

The whitening varnish is left on the teeth, (it’s white) for around 10 minutes and then you simply leave the surgery if you wish and wipe it off later with a cloth when the time is up (30 mins). I was able to talk normally and go back to normal duties without any hesitation at all. I avoided coffee and wine for 12 hours (that was the most painful part!) and now I am really pleased with the results!

If you don’t have naturally white teeth or just want a little boost (4 shades whiter), then definitely check this treatment out.

Overall, I would highly rate my experience at Pitt Street Dental Centre. I would especially encourage anyone who is dentist-phobic or nervous about dentistry to give them a call.
