When we think of Japan, our mind usually turns to the high-energy metropolises of Tokyo and Osaka. Whilst these fast-paces cities offer the visitor an endless array of shopping, night life and curiosities, they are only a portion of what this amazing country has to offer.
Besides the excitement of the big cities, what you may not know is that Japan still boasts some of the most un-spoiled communities brimming with old-world charm..
Meet: Okinawa Prefecture.
Compared to other cultures and destinations, Okinawa is completely unique to anywhere else in the world. Made up of hundreds of islands, Okinawa and the people are renowned for longevity due to their diet, constant activity and outlook on life. With the highest number of centenarians in the world, Okinawa truly holds the secret to a long life.
A consistent and healthy diet full of local island vegetables, like Goya, supplies the body and mind with rich minerals and vitamins. Being active plays a big part in their long lives as well. Whether it’s running in the warm climate and basking in the scenery or getting outside and tending to their vegetable gardens.
Lastly, taking care of the mind through meditation and a positive attitude on life builds their inner-strength. The locals’ happy-go-lucky personality is evident in their big and constant smiles, and the reason they have such an amazing connection with people.
The subtropical climate is home to vegetation and foliage of all kinds, hundreds of animals, white-sand beaches, crystal clear water and uncharted jungles. Sounds good to us!
Located in the most southern point of Japan, the best way to access this gorgeous group of islands is via a quick 3-hour flight from Tokyo. To find out more about Okinawa click here.
