From the ever-reigning popularity of breast augmentation to the rise in mummy makeovers, here’s the reason behind their popularity and what you should know.

With more than 500,000 separate procedures performed last year, Australia has surpassed the U.S. when it comes to the most cosmetic procedures per capita.

Whilst the frequency of cosmetic surgery procedures has risen in the country, a few notable procedures remain at the top of the wish list for many. Keep reading to learn more.

The reigning popularity of breast augmentation

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures around the world, and remains one of the most sought after cosmetic procedures in countries from Brazil to the United States.

But Australians continue to love this surgery too. Dr. Amira Sanki, member and Chair of Education for the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) notes that the most commonly performed plastic surgery performed in Australia is breast augmentation.

In a Fashion Journal interview with Hannah Cohen, Dr. Amira states “Breast augmentation surgery can be done for mature women looking to restore their breast volume and perkiness after having children, for younger women hoping to enhance their breast size and for women hoping to reconstruct their breasts after breast cancer, or to help correct breast asymmetry.”

According to Dr. Amira, the popularity of breast augmentations is closely related to how the procedure impacts a patient’s self-esteem as well as the fact that the procedure has become easier to do (and requires less downtime).

For many seeking such an operation, traveling for the procedure is a popular route, whether it be to a country that features a cheaper price or to the USA for a renowned surgeon.

According to specialists in breast augmentation in Phoenix, those in the area who want breast augmentation may be ideal candidates if they meet certain criteria such as having one breast that is larger than the other, needing to restore the shape of the breasts after a mastectomy or lumpectomy, or being unhappy with the current size/shape of their breasts.

The rise of the ‘Mummy Makeover’

When it comes to other popular trends in the cosmetic surgery industry, the ‘mummy makeover’ promises to help women restore their bodies to a more youthful look, commonly after childbearing.

Plasticsurgery.org notes that “The mommy makeover has become incredibly popular over the last decade as it allows plastic surgeons to address multiple problem areas in a single surgery.”

However, there is no standard makeover and not all mummy makeover procedures are created equally. Further, it’s not always appropriate to combine procedures for every client. On most occasions, it will be customised to your needs and wants.

With that in mind, plasticsurgery.org goes on to explain that the procedure typically includes “some form of breast surgery and a tummy tuck,” though it can include any combination of procedures — from liposuction to arm or thigh lifts, to name just a few.

With the cosmetic surgery industry booming around the world, staple procedures such as breast augmentation have reigned in popularity in Australia and around the world. Other procedures such as the mummy makeover, are also rising in popularity, with many seeking to get their pre-baby body back.
