But Australians continue to love this surgery too. Dr. Amira Sanki, member and Chair of Education for the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) notes that the most commonly performed plastic surgery performed in Australia is breast augmentation.
In a Fashion Journal interview with Hannah Cohen, Dr. Amira states “Breast augmentation surgery can be done for mature women looking to restore their breast volume and perkiness after having children, for younger women hoping to enhance their breast size and for women hoping to reconstruct their breasts after breast cancer, or to help correct breast asymmetry.”
According to Dr. Amira, the popularity of breast augmentations is closely related to how the procedure impacts a patient’s self-esteem as well as the fact that the procedure has become easier to do (and requires less downtime).
For many seeking such an operation, traveling for the procedure is a popular route, whether it be to a country that features a cheaper price or to the USA for a renowned surgeon.
