Part 1 – Prepping your face
To achieve a flawless foundation look it comes down to having really clean and prepped skin.
1. Wash your face.
Simple but true, it’s so important to rid your face of any dirt, sebum and old makeup before applying a new layer of foundation. You need your face to resemble a clean canvas which means crusty, dried up patches from the night before are a big no-no and need to be cleansed prior to anything else. This will help your foundation stay fresh for longer.
2. Exfoliate a few times a week.
Everyone knows that rough, textured feeling your skin gets from clogged up pores and other nasties (especially everyday makeup lovers). So to keep your foundation looking even, lasting longer and avoiding it flaking off during the day, it is essential to exfoliate your skin and remove dead skin cells which accumulate throughout the day.
3. Moisturise your skin
Moisturise. Moisturise. Moisturise. We can’t emphasise this enough. Not only is it great for preventing wrinkles and ageing, it is an absolute gem for people that are looking for a smoother finish when applying foundation. For dry skin, any moisturiser will do. For oily skin, purchase an ‘oil-free’ or gel moisturiser and do not use a creamy, thick moisturiser when prepping your face for makeup as it will make your foundation slide off during the day.
4. Prime your face
Ladies, primer is the holy grail when it comes to making your foundation last all day. The biggest makeup tip any makeup artist will give you, is to apply primer. Primer absorbs into your skin and forms a stickier base, which allows more product to latch onto the skin. This in turn keeps your foundation looking perfect all day (and well into the night) despite what Mother Nature throws at you.
