Manning Cartell’s Autumn Winter collection for this year pays homage to Pallas Athene, the goddess of wisdom and courage. She was the wise and discerning companion of some of the greatest hero’s of the epics and championed heroic endeavour, strength, intelligence, bravery and a good heart. I may have uttered a little squeal of excitement when I opened this lookbook, because Ancient Greek mythology is one of my favourite things!
For this collection, Manning Cartell uses both the wisdom of past, and the boundless potential of modern resources. The past manifests in traditional fabrics that have re-emerged in recent seasons, brocades, tapestries, and applique and these are juxtaposed against the graphic prints, coated fabrics, and embellished leathers that only modern technology can provide.
The collection, with such a clear reference to the Greek goddess, then clearly celebrates the female form and the glamour and elegance that comes with it. Pallas Athene was a powerful, attractive goddess and thus the silhouettes for the season are sensual, hourglass, sculptural, with deep necklines and high splits. Ancient Greece references were obvious in a grecian wall print style on a beautiful sheer bomber jacket.
The jackets to me are the highlight of the collection, in bold colours and luxe fabrics that make you feel both ultra stylish and super comfortable at the same time.
The collection is shot beautifully, and to my pleasure features a multi-cultural line up of models, a further sign of Manning Cartell’s forward thinking vision.
