There’s a story to scull rings you wouldn’t necessarily know – infact I hit up a guy selling a whole bunch of them at the markets recently and he didn’t know so there’s my one-man band consensus! “TEMPUS FUGIT MEMENTO MORI”; translated; Time is short remember death. In contrast to the decorative purpose they have today, scull rings were worn as a reminder of our immortality.
I’m yet to find the perfect one but in the meantime I’m happy to salivate over these killer concoctions by UK Jeweler Dominic Jones.
There’s an unnerving fragility to his latest and 4th collection that rather than putting on a false pretense, it’s expressive and raw. Where most advertising campaigns would have us believe and buy into a somewhat illuminated version of real life, Dominic Jones brings beauty to the feelings and longings that can be found within all of us and like my scull rings reminding it’s wearer of their own immortality, his collection is a timely reminder of what’s real.
