3 Foolproof Ways To Wear Double-Denim

Written By Cece Seen

Love it or hate it double denim has not only made a comeback, it is sticking around! Sure, not all of us are celebrities or catwalk models with teams of designers to style us, BUT if you feel like giving this trend a go and are not sure where to start, these are the 3 things you need to know to achieving a faultless double denim look (and avoid looking like Britney and Justin circa 2011)

Rhianna, OP and Miranda showing how Double Denim is done.

1. Shades of blue

Whether you are wearing jeans and a shirt, or shorts and a jacket, go for different shades. On trend at the moment is the light blue and “chambray” denim shirt. If your colouring makes it tricky to wear lighter colours near your face, find a darker coloured denim to wear up top with a lighter version for the bottom. For the more adventurous try some jewelled up jeans or throw some patterns in the mix with a spotted denim shirt.

2. Tempting textures

There is nothing more delicious than a well-worn, soft, floppy denim shirt. Pair it with some ripped or textured denim jeans. Fancy a more structured shirt or a denim jacket? Try pairing it with some softer jeans like jeggings.

3. Styling

This will either make or break your look. If you are unsure of what is right for you, experiment. Have a look at our earlier story here and take a peek at your favourite celebrities and see how they are wearing their double denim. A big favourite is tucking in the front only of the denim shirt  with the back left loose. Another popular style is tucking the whole shirt in and accessorising with a neutral yet luxurious belt – butter soft tanned leather anyone? One of this writer’s favourite styles is taking the ends of the shirt and tying them at the front for a retro/pin-up vibe that is majorly sexy.

Remember:  the most important thing to pull off any look is to feel comfortable and have fun!

Man, Liv Palermo rocked it, but i feel like this would be hard to pull off day-to-day unless you’re some fashionista on the streets of Sydney, Bondi or New York or unless you work in an uber-trendy office environment.
