Hair Inspiration: The Crop

For most girls, the thought of chopping off our long locks strikes fear in our hearts (myself included). I have always envied the girls that have the gumption and the bone structure to pull off a short do, however in recent years I have noticed its less about the bone structure and more about your hairstylist. Colour, cut, and style play such a huge role in making a cropped do work for you.

The crop is a trend that seems to be sweeping Hollywood like wildfire in the last year, everyone from Diana Agron to Emma Watson taking the drastic leap. The key to making this look work for you is choosing the right cut and colour for your face shape.

For those with a round face shape or a heart face shape, opt for a pixie style cut like Ginnifer Goodwin, Michelle Williams, Halle Berry and Emma Watson. This cut elongates your face shape and accentuates your cheekbones.

Ladies with a square face shape are best suited to a choppy crop like Keira Knightley, Alexa Chung and most recently Diana Agron. This is great for softening the jawline and is easily maintained with a bit of dry shampoo for volume and styling mouse used in a scrunching motion.

Long face shapes are best suited to the classic bob a-la Victoria Beckham. Oval face shaped ladies rejoice because anything suits you!

Take some inspiration for the coming summer months from our celebrity gallery below. These fierce ladies prove that keeping your hair long doesn’t prove your femininity.

I sometimes wonder about a short ‘do but I’ve never seen one with thick curls like mine that I would like. Past a certain shortness, it seems like an afro is my only option without a straightener.

My short hair was definitely inspired by Dianna. My hairstylist said my texture and volume wasn’t suitable for it so I got a digital perm with my cut and it turned out amazing. Long hair has always been considered sexy but I think girls like Dianna and Emma really help girls take the lead on having it short and still lookng hot.

I went from waist long hair to a short bob, it sounds a lot scarier than it is! Hair grows back and you could always get extensions if you really don’t like it. Worth trying it if you’re thinking about it 🙂
