If there’s one thing I’m obsessing over this coming spring, its suede. Suede dresses, shoes, bags; if it’s suede and can somehow be draped over my body in a stylish manner, I’m into it.
I confess I was never overly preoccupied with the idea of having any cow related clothing (other than regular leather of course) until I was sent what is now one of my all time favourite dresses by May the label. What happened after that was a crazy love affair that I’m still not over.
It appears that designers have caught the bug as well, with many bringing out suede items this year. Being versatile, suede can often be incredibly adaptable, often making for great trans-seasonal pieces.
May’s aw11 collection featured a whole set of suede items, including the pebbles skirt and annie sleeveless dress which I’m still lusting over. For spring/summer cult label One Teaspoon has come out with the Yoko shorts in four amazing colours. With their relaxed fit they are the perfect alternative to denim and top my wishlist for summer.
Still not satisfied? Suede ankle boots are proving to be this season’s staple footwear, particularly in lighter, nude colours for spring. If you can’t afford the classic Isabel Marant ‘Dicker’ boots (left) which are doing the rounds on fashion blogs around the world, cheaper alternatives are the ‘Pembrook’ bootie by Steven by Steve Madden, or the newly restocked Asos ‘Aggie’ boots in classic black.
If you’re willing to part with some serious cash, the Isabel Marant ‘Faone’ dress is an absolutely amazing day to night piece, having just enough sex appeal in a demure little dress to make me consider surviving on bread and water for the next month or two. With suede taking center stage this season, this is one trend I predict will be around for quite a while to come!
