Five Steps To Bombshell: Re-Creating The Margot Robbie Look

Written by Ellen Malone

There have always been iconic blondes. Think Marilyn Monroe, Claudia Schiffer, Virna Lisi, Grace Kelly. Every generation has a blonde bombshell (or two) to make us rush to the hairdresser demanding a high lift tint immediately. Our new kid on the block is Australian stunner Margot Robbie. She’s down to earth, (she lives in a share house) self effacing, (she reckons her friends are prettier than her) kind, (she paid off her mum’s mortgage) and massively gorgeous. What’s not to love?

Here are 5 ways to steal Margot Robbie’s “blonde bombshell” look:

STEP ONE: Ashes to ashes, it’s a golden future.

Margot’s signature blonde is actually gold base, rather than ash. I know, I know, we’re all terrified of going ‘orange’ however a gold based blonde will warm your skin tone and make your eyes brighter- especially blue or green eyes. Ask for: all over golden blonde with a few highlights. Make a deep side parting and add a little volume spray before styling – think beachy waves rather than polished tresses.

STEP TWO: Green with envy

Margot’s eyeliner here is actually metallic green, lined with black. This picks up her eye colour beautifully, and is a fresh modern take on a classic look. Take a metallic liner which matches your eye colour, (gel liner works well for this) and apply a thick line along your lash line. Next, take a black liquid liner and trace a VERY fine line along the lash line, being careful not to totally cover the metallic liner. Curl your lashes and apply as much mascara as your lashes can handle without looking like spiders legs. Top tip: use up ALL the mascara on the wand before dipping it for more product – this will prevent getting too much product at once so your lashes will stay defined.

STEP THREE: Brows = bombshell.

Every wondered what Marilyn Monroe, Brooke Shields and Cara Delevinge have in common? Smokin’ brows. Great brows are equivalent to a facelift. Grow them out as thick as you can, and then get them professionally shaped, keeping them as big as possible. Fill in gaps where necessary with a brow powder, one shade lighter than your hair, using an angle brush. No surgery necessary.

STEP FOUR: Go naked.

The focus of the Margot Robbie look is definitely the hair, brows and eyes. Keep the cheeks and lips understated with a peachy based blush and nude lip. Make sure to use a good nude lip liner first to avoid scary ‘ concealer lip’. Top with a little gloss in a peachy tone to keep lips looking kissable.

STEP FIVE: Black is the new black.

Pair this look with a classic LBD or pants suit – guaranteed to turn heads wherever you go. Sexy black outfits work a charm with blonde hair, for a look that says elegant and sophisticated. Just don’t blame me when the paparazzi chase you down the street, convinced you’re a celebrity.

She’s a great looking bird alright! I always wonder what people would look like with their real hair colour though when I see them as a definitely-dyed person. I often wonder if they’d look even better if they were natural?!
