Cosmos Clinic Review: Anti-Ageing Treatments Sydney

Recently I was invited by Cosmos Clinic, one of the leaders in Australian cosmetic and plastic surgery to experience a selection of anti-ageing treatments, and here I am going to tell you ALL about it.

With locations along the east coast (Sydney, Adelaide, Canberra and the Gold Coast) I made my way down to the beautiful leafy surrounds of Double Bay in Sydney for my treatment. Tucked away on a quiet residential street, Cosmos Clinic is private and serene. Stylishly appointed and with a luxurious day-spa atmosphere, the clinic was welcoming and professional – not the least bit intimidating.

Without grasping onto an exact wish-list of treatments in advance, I arrived with a fairly open mind and a willingness to listen to the experts. Despite taking very good care of my skin for the past few years, there are simply some symptoms of the ageing process that cremes and serums have not (cannot?) fully overcome.

At age 36, my main concerns are of course wrinkles (specifically on the forehead and around the eyes when I smile), and a loss of volume on the cheeks. Ultimately, I was hoping to leave looking rested and smoother on the brow and more plumped around the cheekbones – without looking frozen or fake. I was open to the course of action.

The Experience:

After filling in the requisite forms, I was ushered into a treatment room with the lovely Benoite – a qualified nurse, who assessed my face and attentively listened to all of my concerns.

Benoite agreed that these 2 areas could be enhanced to give me a more rested and youthful appearance.  With a range of non-surgical treatments on offer, she recommended a combination of anti-wrinkle injections for the forehead and around the eyes, and a small amount of dermal fillers for the cheeks.

I had a short consultation via face-time with the prescribing doctor (required by law before any treatments) and we were on our way…

I will admit straight away that I was super-nervous about the dermal fillers to the cheeks. I am not normally bothered by needles but I was inexplicably apprehensive about this. I probably did a little too much googling beforehand (some things are best left unknown!).

Unlike a normal needle injection, a dermal filler injection comes with gentle pushing and pressing in order to work the product into the right spot on the face. Whilst it was a very new and unusual sensation, and a little discomforting at first, in reality it hardly hurt at all. (With a numbing ingredient built into the product, I only felt “pain” for a few short moments at most.)

In addition to her calm and nurturing bedside manner (she’s a proper nurse after all!) Benoite was super gentle with the application itself. She talked to me throughout the treatment and kept me updated which helped immensely. Quite the perfectionist, Benoite paused periodically to check the symmetry and progress and we both did a mirror check at the half way point as well.

Before too long the cheeks were completed, and surprisingly there was little to no discomfort afterwards. (There was slight tenderness and a few tiny marks, but all could be easily covered with makeup if need be, and this was definitely nothing to worry about.)

Next it was onto the anti-wrinkle injections. Feeling so much more relaxed than when I first laid down, I was comfortable and confident for the home-stretch. Unlike the injecting technique used for dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections feel more like short sharp pin-pricks which I think even the needle-phobic could easily tolerate. Benoite knew exactly was she was doing, treating the areas on my forehead and smile lines with some deft moves in a few minutes flat.

Once both treatments were completed, she checked over her work and showed me the results in the mirror. With only 0.5ml applied each side, the dermal fillers were noticeable immediately. The high-points of my cheeks were subtly, yet visibly boosted. The bone itself was also enhanced. (And this was with only 0.5ml! – kudos to Benoite!)

As anti-wrinkle injections do not take effect straight away we could not see any immediate results in the clinic, but a day or two later and the results were becoming apparent. My forehead was smoothing out and the grumpy frown had already gone. The space between my brows was not only smoothed, it seemed lifted. The smile lines around my eyes (only normally visible when smiling) were reducing as well.

Results:

A week or so has passed and I have to say I am absolutely thrilled with the results from my trip to Cosmos Clinic. With minimal dosage of both anti-wrinkle and dermal fillers I have been able to achieve a noticeable improvement to my appearance. Having had anti-wrinkle treatments before (with very minimal benefit) I feel the outcome was aided by having a skilled practitioner who really knew what they were doing. Having never used dermal fillers before, I can’t compare this to other experiences but I am honestly very pleased with the results and this is a treatment I will definitely do again independently in the future.
