Collette Dinnigan Set To Close Its Doors

In another shocking announcement for Australian fashion, after twenty-four years of groundbreaking and internationally beloved designs, Collette Dinnigan is set to close her doors by the end of the year.

Dinnigan has made the decision to close her business to spend more time with her baby son, and nine year old daughter, despite international success.

The Australian designer cites the the publication of her book as the tipping point for her decision, “I have met and worked with some of the world’s most talented people, as well as realizing my own creativity while driving a financially viable, profitable business,” she said.

The company will close by years end and her retail outlets including Sydney, Melbourne and London will be closing early in the New Year.

While the Collette Dinnigan brand might close, the name will live on in Collette by Collette Dinnigan, the diffusion line which will continue to be sold through David Jones, Neiman Marcus and Net-a-Porter, and Collette Dinnigan Enfant will relaunch next month, as well as her collection for Specsavers.

Dinnigan has been sure to stress that financial difficulties were not the reason for the closure, merely her wish to priorities her family first. While this is the case for Dinnigan, it is bleak news for the industry which has seen Lisa Ho, Kirrily Johnston, Marnie Skillings and Poppy Lissiman among many others close up shop in the last few years.
