One of our favourite labels cylk has dropped into Audrey Shop and we couldn’t be more excited. To celebrate, I had the pleasure of picking the brains of Emily Nasr the designer of cylk on all things fashion and inspiration. Shop cylk here.
Where did the inspiration for cylk come from?
cylk began as a capsule collection of 100% silk tops (hence the name!). The aim was to capitalise on our knowledge and experience of seamless knitting technology and combine this with high-end blends to encapsulate luxury in a simplistic, effortless way.
How would you describe the aesthetic?
The cylk silhouette is clean, modern and shapely, which works as essential layering pieces or innovative ready-to-wear elements. Using innovative seamless technology, the beautiful and timeless pieces conform to the body, while also enhancing the feminine form.
Who or what inspires your designs, and why?
I have a medley of influences. Artists like Anton Henning, Milton Avery & Egon Schiele. Designers that inspire me at present are Dries Van Noten, Celine & Proenza Schouler. Cities like Paris also stimulate my work; French women are effortless & i find the city’s architecture & general ambiance very special.
Who is the cylk girl?
The cylk girl is independent & highly driven. She is image conscious, leads a balanced lifestyle and is a forward thinker. In a nutshell, the cylk girl exudes confidence.
Key trends to watch for this spring/summer?
Patterns & prints that are suggestive of the seventies! Other key trends to watch will be oriental inspired graphics & traditional Asian elements like in Dries Van Noten’s Summer ’11 collection which will follow through to Summer ’12 with designers like DVF and Tsumori Chisato.
Your favourite item that you just can’t live without?
My cylk bamboo underwear set…I literally live in them. It combines comfort with style.
What does style mean to you?
Style to me is an artistic expression of how you want to be portrayed; it is a reflection a one’s personality. A quote I try & live by is “Fashion fades, only style remains the same.” Coco Chanel.
If you could have breakfast with anyone in the world (alive or dead) who would it be?
There are several that come to mind for different reasons. Jane Birkin in the sixties; I’d love the opportunity to witness her effortless style up close!
What can we expect next from Cylk?
A push with the Ready to Wear range. Stunning, original & obscure prints on luxurious silks, unique hand painted details and an incredible seamless intimates collection.
