While it is almost Summer and the sun is out and shining, that doesn’t mean that you can’t still flirt with what are traditionally winter trends.
A dark lip can be sexy, sumptuous and flattering if you choose the right tone for your skin colour.
If you have fair skin, I always think a hint of purple tones really makes an elegant, yet forward statement. If you have olive skin I think a warmer, dark red tone adds dimension and colour.
Choosing a vibrant lip colour can be a little daunting, and to be honest it takes a little coaxing for me to give it a go. I recommend applying a bold shade like a deep berry and keeping it on for a good half hour- the initial reaction will shock you and is not a good indicator of whether this is a look that you should wear. If you still don’t like it after half and hour, the shade probably isn’t you but more often than not you will come around!

You have to have right skin tone and hair colour to rock the dark lippy, me thinks. It just doesn’t suit me 🙁

Couldn’t agree more with Tina – “it works on some celebrities but not on others.” For reasons I’m not sure about, I’ve never really liked very dark lipstick.

I love dark Red and rarely I wear Black – there’s a dark shade of any colour for everybody though. I’ve seen a lot of dark Purples and Browns. It’s the same principle as with light lips – wear the opposite on the eyes for day wear and only heavy on the eyes with dark lips if really dressing up.

I love a good dark lip but the problem I find if I wear a dark red it ends up turning a hideous bright red and sometimes feathers, maybe from acid in the skin?
