BWA caught up with Ulyana, designer of None The Richer, one year on from when we last saw her…so many exciting things on the horizon!
Great to catch up with you again! What have you been up to since we last spoke?
Always a pleasure
Post MBFW was an exciting time for us as we had an amazing launch party for our SS12/13 collection in Sydney. I have also been working on AW 2013 and SS 13/14 as well as working on some exciting new projects, its full steam ahead at the moment.
How would you describe your latest collection?
It’s more refined and chic but still has that glimmer of wild and balancing the two is apparent.
Do you find it hard as an “up and coming” designer to find a permanent place for yourself in the market? Do you have any advice for designers that are just starting out?
Absolutely, no one gave me a manual on how to do this; I didn’t study fashion or business. I find it is important to stay true to who you are as a designer, keep liberating people and believe in your ambitions. Creating a good team of people to work with is key, as they will help in achieving your goals.
Blogging is such an incredible phenomenon these days, are there any fave blogs you could share with us?
Some NtR has worked with and others we would love to see wearing NtR.

Key trends to shop for the upcoming season?
Leather, Sweaters and Sequins; throw them all together and you’ll have a great look.
Key piece from the latest collection?
The Unicorn skirts; they can be worn from a barbecue to an event with an effortlessly cool vibe.
Previously your aesthetic has been pretty bohemian, edgy, grungy luxe – it feels like your latest campaign is a little cleaner and more grown up- do you feel like you have evolved as a designer?
I don’t think I’ll ever entirely grow up as some days I feel like a 40 year old Parisian princess (can only dream) and other days an 18 year old punk kid (more realistic!). So expect the unexpected because I’m going to be just as surprised as you are.
What is the one thing you can’t leave the house without?
Instagram! completely addicted.
What does style mean to you?
Showing your personality; I’m such a chameleon so harmonizing everything would have to be what style means to me.
