On Our Radar: Who Is Gigi Hadid?

If you haven’t seen much of Gigi Hadid yet, this is about to change – she’s on the fast track to becoming your new favourite IT Girl and taking the fashion world by storm.

Born to former Dutch mega-model Yolanda Foster (who you may know from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) it’s safe to say modelling is in her blood. Her modelling career started at just 2 years old after she was discovered by Paul Marciano, Co-founder of legendary brand Guess. She appeared in various campaigns for Baby Guess and Guess Kids before being named the face of Guess Jeans in 2012.

Being the Guess Jeans Girl is like joining an exclusive club of super-models and is generally a signifier a model’s career is about to take off and that’s exactly what it did. In February 2014 Gigi made her New York Fashion Week debut walking in the Desigual and Jeremy Scott shows and winning the admiration of the fashion pack. February also saw Gigi grace the cover of Carine Roitfeld’s eponymous magazine CR Fashion Book.

Roitfeld has an eye for spotting and championing new talent and once a model has the CR seal of approval it’s only uphill from there. This S/S15 season saw Gigi cement her place in the high fashion world.  Walking for Marc Jacobs at New York Fashion Week, Giles RTW at London Fashion week and during Paris Fashion week for Jean Paul Gaultier, Sonia Rykiel and Chanel.

Behind the model is a hardworking and dedicated young woman just like any other girl her age. Upon graduating High School Gigi moved to New York to begin studies in abnormal psychology at the New School while continuing to juggle her modelling commitments.

When she’s not storming the catwalks or studying the behaviour of the criminally insane you’ll see her working out with bestie Kendall Jenner or sitting courtside at Madison Square Garden. Gigi definitely has the off-duty model look down pat, effortlessly transitioning from denim cut-offs with crew-cut white tees and oversized jumpers to designer pieces from the likes of Tom Ford . There is definitely an edge to her style often opting for a pantsuit or figure hugging jumpsuit over the more classic red carpet look of a floor length gown. She’s the new generation of model and it’s exciting to see where she’ll go next!
