Now You Can Have Your Own Slice Of ‘Posh’ Culture History

Victoria Beckham’s wardrobe is for sale.

Love her or loathe her, Victoria Beckham’s transformation from pouty pop star to first-rate fashion designer has been impressive. On the cusp of her first collection (which consisted only of dresses) in 2009 the former Spice Girl was doubted, underestimated and undermined, but five years on and she’s proved her critics wrong; she’s a female fashion force to be reckoned with.

When it comes to her personal style, VB’s sartorial sense is envied by women from all walks of life, and with one of the most covetable closets in the fashion sphere, it’s no surprise that the announcement of the Victoria Beckham Charity Sale is on the lips of savvy shoppers around the world.

Over 600 items are for sale (which makes you wonder about the size of the WAG’s full wardrobe) on the UK outlet shopping site, The Outnet from 20th– 24th August.Raising money for the charity mothers2mothers which aims to end mother-to-child HIV transmission, Victoria wanted to do whatever she could to helpthe cause after being inspired by its remarkable founder, Mitch Besser, while on a trip to South Africa with Anna Wintour.

But unlike trawling through your local Vinnies’ for a rare style steal, these pieces are genuine fashion treasures. Each item can be traced back to a pivotal moment in celebrity culture from the past twenty years. Beckham’s clothing represents more than just her fashion faux pas and sartorial successes, they tell the story of the evolution of one of the world’s most influential women.

Featuring in the auction is the iconic canary yellow, thigh-high split, Roberto Cavalli dress worn at the Beckham’s pre-World Cup party in 2006 (the year the term WAG was coined and marrying a footballer became a viable career choice for young girls), and the green Louis Férard dress worn to the 2007 spring/summer Chanel show in Paris, carefully selected as Victoria edged her way into high fashion.

The Antonio Beradi piece worn for an evening at the theatre in 2008 during the Beckham’s fast friendship with Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise will also be sold, as well as a classic checked Roland Mouret pencil dress snapped on Ms Beckham more recently in 2012 in NYC.

While there have been many incarnations of Victoria Beckham, none have been quite as appealing as the entrepreneurial, and ultra-chic fashion designer that has emerged. Reinvention is something she’s good at, and embodying the girl power that launched her career in the nineties seems to come naturally. Cynics may scoff at the sale, but whatever the intentions behind her charitable wardrobe clear out the result will be a good one – money (and the profile) raised for a much-needed cause.

I think she’s a beautiful woman who’s lost too much weight, and she’s been doing some real good for charity lately.

She’s kind of too ‘cool’ an aloof for me to feel like I admire her.
