Watch: The Truth of Retouching

While we are all aware photoshop exists in the grand scheme of things, its hard to really discern what has been photoshopped and what hasn’t without a trained technical eye. These days just about every image of a person we see on TV or in the movies, on blogs, in newspapers or any other form of media has been retouched, so its not hard to see why both men and woman have developed a complex when it comes to external beauty.

These changes however are often kept secret and perhaps that is where the danger lies, where the line between truth and total fantasy becomes blurred.

Hungarian directors Balint Nagy and Nandor Lorincz have exposed the extremity of these changes in their latest music video for Hungarian artist Boggie.

The videois a fascinating case study of  how intricately detailed and tweaked faces and bodies of celebrities are when they appear on screen in movies and music clips or in magazines.

The question at the end of the day begs to be asked….but why? Why do we consider this to be an essential part of media, and indeed why do we consider the end result more beautiful?

What do you all think?

It’s kind of weird, I’d rather see “imperfect” but real beauties.

I realised they photoshopped everything – to see it like this though is quite amazing! It’s funny how just one technician’s opinion of what’s ‘pretty’ can be what the rest of the world ends up seeing the magazines/tv etc. It’s actually more idealistic artwork than reality of course.
