Dion Lee, one of Australia’s most celebrated designers presented his Spring Summer 2013 collection to an intimate crowd at Sydney’s iconic Opera House.
The collection, titled Windmap is an adaptation of the Fall 2013 collection which was presented in Paris earlier this year, and included fifteen previously unseen looks.
Lee emphasised a firm focus on his trademark tailoring, creating unique and innovative silhouettes that we have never seen before.
The inspiration for the collection started with wind, a beautiful, invisible source of energy that has been harnessed by both the early explorer and todays innovator looking towards the future.
Wind patterns, movements of air and the sail silhouette informed much of the details of the collection, in interlocking pattern cutting which creates totally unique shapes which curl like tendrils of wind around the neck and body.
The use of fabrics with this collection speaks of a collection with an evening focus; fine silk georgettes, bonded silk duchses satin and bonded leather.
The collection presentation was styled by none other than Christine Centenera and were unusually and intelligently styled with the iconic RM Williams Millicent boot.
One of my favourite parts of the preview, other than the pieces of course was the hair. Sophie Roberts (KMS) created a beautifully sleek look that incorporated custom Sarah and Sebastian headpieces.
