BWA Chats To: Michael Lo Sordo For MBFWA

Stay tuned for the Michael Lo Sordo show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia in a few hours!!

It has been an exciting couple of years for MLS, what have been some of your career highlights to date?

Where do I start! Showing in Milan with AWI and Italian Vogue, MBFWA 2013… without sounding full of myself it’s been a great two years.

I have also just been nominated as a regional finalist for the International Woolmark Prize so that’s pretty exciting too.

How would you describe the MLS girl?

The MLS girl is strong and sensual with a feminine touch. She really knows what she wants both in fashion and in life. A lot of the women in my life are like this, so they are quite inspiring.

What inspired the upcoming collection?

We started with the ideas of nuns and their traditional dress and then looked at ways to translate it into a modern style. We also found new textiles and manipulations as we as working with really new silhouettes for the brand.

A hint at what we might be seeing on the runway?

Clean, structure, blue… I don’t want to give too much away.

What key pieces should our readers hunt for in 2013?

Jackets are still really big, so a great blazer is always good. Summer is also still about the dress so finding the one (or ones) that are right for your style will be key.

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week survival tips?

Organisation, friends, coffee and a holiday at the end.

Finally, a question we ask all our interviewees: if you could have breakfast with anyone in the world, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

It would have to be Iris Apfel. Besides her fabulous style, I think she’d have some pretty amazing breakfast stories!
