Hedi Slimane continues to reinvent the Saint Laurent fashion house, moving towards more contemporary and modern collections shifting away from the more classic collections from when the brand was still Yves Saint Laurent.
With Slimane’s latest offering, his second collection under the Saint Laurent Paris name, we see references to 90′s era Californian grunge. The result is younger with a grittier edge which fits in perfectly with his design aesthetic, and he incorporates a lot of his signature black pieces.
Complete with sexy bedhead hair looks and black kohl-rimmed eyes, the show opened with three of the top It-Girl models: Belgian Hanne Gaby Odiele, British Edie Campbell and our very own Aussie Julia Nobis, with other notable Aussie faces included Nicole Pollard, Olivia Thornton and Catherine McNeil.
The collection was all checks and tartans, plunging necklines, floral mini dresses, fishnets and biker boots – all so perfectly 90′s. The mixing and matching of furs, ruffles, leather and sheer fabrics was perfectly balanced and enhanced the clashing between the sweeter looks – the peter pan collars and babydoll dresses – and the tougher looks – the skirt with the buckle detailing, the mens-style flannel shirts and leather moto jackets.
