I’m the kind of person that likes to dip their finger into everything but I’ll admit I’ve fallen behind in the gel liner category. I’ve only ever owned the Stila Smudge Pot (which I do not like at all) and I’ve tried my friends MAC Fluid-Line once and didn’t get the hype at all. So about a month ago, I decided to buy the Bobbi Brown Gel Eye-Liner ($45) on a whim. This product has become kind of a cult classic in the beauty world. It’s been branded the ‘best’ gel liner in countless beauty awards and has near perfect reviews online. So I had pretty high expectations for this eyeliner.

I bought the colour ‘Chocolate Shimmer Ink’, a medium brown with bronze microshimmer which is absolutely stunning in the pot. Firstly, the packaging is very standard but still clean and elegant. The glass pot gives it a good weight but it is compact enough to travel with. I apply this with an angled brush- the MAC 263. Initially it took me a while to get the hang of it, I’m used to applying eyeliner with a pointed tip (and for some reason I don’t have a thin-tipped eyeliner brush) so the angled brush was a little tricky. But after a few goes I was pleasantly surprised at how simple it was! The eyeliner comes in a very pliable gel formula which spreads very well. It’s decently pigmented, stays put all day and the colour range is absolutely stunning.

Now the down-sides…yes it’s that price tag. At first I balked at the price but after using it every day for a month I can only see the tiniest dent. Next, I found that the product has been drying up a bit around the edges which makes me a little concerned about the longevity. Now, because I’m not that familiar with gel liners, I’m not too sure if this is normal or not so fingers crossed that it is!

Overall, a pretty good purchase. I’m happy with it and would love to try some of the other colours. I would repurchase it if it ran out. What about you guys? Have you tried it, like it/hate it? What are some other gel liner recommendations, I’d love to try more! Let me know in the comments!
