Prabal Gurung’s demand may outstrip supply if his recent business expansion and incredible Spring 2013 collection are anything to go by.
Gurung took a page from inspirations close to home, using the works of Anish Kapoor to direct the collections colour journey and prints. More homage to his homeland of Nepal was elegantly reflected in the necklines of fitted jackets and relaxed pants- a direct reference to some of the traditional Nepalese dress.
Gurung has copped some flak for revisiting silhouettes and cuts that have worked so well from him in the past. For me, those designers are synonymous with the designer and the collection feels like a statement of his aesthetic and homage to the place that gave him life. A collection doesn’t have to necessarily be perpetually barelling forward and to remain current- and I think Gurung injected enough of the new- in asymmetry, floaty chiffon, and casual chic to ensure his collection is refreshed.
