Who better to kick off our belated New York Fashion Week coverage than Alexander Wang? The NY runways have been a flurry of amazing Spring fashion, celebrities, style bloggers and the fashion elite, and Alexander Wang’s show was no exception.
Kicking off the show with black lights and glowing models, Wang did not disappoint bringing a collection that is wholeheartedly his strong, powerful aesthetic.
Wang tells Style.com ”After last season’s austerity…I wanted to pull garments apart, experiment with volumes.” Wang, has deconstructed the garments, but in keeping with his measured, angular aesthetic, slits and slices in the fabric created patterns that were micro-art pieces in a macro-masterpiece.
Like all other NYFW shows, the front row was jam packed with celebrities who worship at the altar of that particular designer. Die Antwood, Justin Theroux (Jen Anistons beau), and A$AP Rocky were all in attendance although the biggest scandal maker of the show was Liberty Ross on the runway, whose husband has rocketed their family to fame in his recent cheating scandal with Kristen Stewart.
Despite the rumor mill, nothing could detract from the brilliance of the designer. In keeping with Wang’s monochromatic tendencies the collection moved between crisp whites, to greys and thick blacks. Sexy dresses clung to the bodies of the likes of homegrown beauty Julia Nobis and Erin Wasson, magically held together by strands of gossamer. The designer’s take on sports chic was back for another season, with mesh paneling, t-shirt dresses and patent leather caps.
