There are several thoughts clashing in my mind as I look over the images from Givenchy’s Fall Couture collection. To me, images of a fantastical Game of Thrones warrior woman spring instantly to the forefront upon viewing Joan Smalls smoldering with a hound in the opening shot.
Simply cut lines reference the sixties, as well as special detailing like embroidery and leather fringing. These details could also be construed as drawing inspiration from the gypsies in Italy, the hometown of designer Riccardo Tisci.
Still, the overarching theme for me comes back to Game of Thrones. Why? Tisci’s designs are exemplary, forward thinking yet drawing from the past. They are opulent, dramatic and use intricate leather and fur detailing that would be at home on a million dollar set.
My recent Givenchy purchase has really ignited my love for this brand, and the couture collection is the truest of the label’s artistic masterpieces.
The key, as is with most couture collections is in the detail. Look closely at the cascading fringing on Joan Smalls, the leather embroidery on the floor length leather nappa fringe dress, a chocolate gown with hand created embroidery and tassels. Pure brilliance showcasing the skills of a true artisan.
