Product Review: Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadows

  /  11 months ago  /  46 Comments

The transience of eye-shadow is well renowned in the beauty world, with many brands producing their own lines of long-lasting shadows. Many of these shadows claim to last all day without melting, creasing or smudging. I personally find the idea of low maintenance, long lasting shadows very attractive- as most of those on-the-go types would, but sometimes it can be difficult to find the right one that will last on your lids for the whole day. One brand has come close however, Benefit’s Creaseless Cream Shadows ($35) have one of the best formulas on the market.

A while ago I picked up two colours, ‘Flatter Me’- a light, golden taupe and ‘Sippin n Dippin’- a golden peach. The texture of these shadows are initially very creamy, almost to the point where there is a bit too much slip. They ended up in the back of my makeup drawer because of that. However, when I dug them up about a month later they had solidified a tiny, tiny bit and were wore beautifully.

Application is that of an ordinary cream shadow, applying a decent amount of colour in one swipe with very buildable pigmentation. I apply these with a dense, fluffy eye shadow brush or just fingers- which work just as well!  Most of the colours in the line are a satin or shimmer finish, so if matt shadows are your thing you may want to check out the Maybelline 24 Hour Colour Tattoo line or stick to power shadows. Now to the most important claim- are they truly creaseless? Surprisingly, yes! I have moderately oily lids but I still get quite a bit of creasing and smudging from most shadows, even with a primer. These wore all day without budging and ‘Flatter Me’ has become my staple all-over-lid colour. Like the MAC Paintpots, these are also be great as an eye-shadow base.

As much as I love the product itself I have so say its major down-side is the limited colour range, if you’re a fan of brights (I quite like them!) then this is definitely not for you. The colours are quite neutral- think Urban Decay Naked Palette type colours. It would also be great for some different finishes; matt eye shadows especially can look terrible when they crease.

All in all, Benefit’s Creaseless Cream Shadows are a great investment if you want some staple neutrals that wear all day. They will definitely last quite a while, you get 4.5g/0.16oz of product, which is a decent amount and the product isn’t so creamy that you’d be scooping out unnecessarily large amounts accidentally.

Do any of you BWAe-ers own this product? Love it/hate it? Let me know!

Xx Jen

ragdollbaby 11 months ago Haven't tried it before. But as I've bought a number of primer's in the past to only be disappointed, I'm weary to spend $35 to only have to toss it if it doesn't work for me.
