Ever since my teens I’ve been in constant battle with my skin. It gets red, dry, peels, cracks, and itches. Then winter comes around (which is where healthy skin goes to die) and I tend to approach it with a “this means war” mentality. Slathering on handfuls and handfuls of moisturiser, foundation and anything I can get my hands on.
But last winter, I finally realised that maybe instead of engaging in open combat with my skin, I should show it some lovin’. So after much experimenting I’ve found a few amazing products that are perfect for my sensitive skin.
Even if you’re tough as nails, it’s worth having a look at these products because when it comes to the chilly season, even the most resilient complexion can turn into a barren wasteland.
1. Day face cream: “Simple” Hydrating Light Moisturiser 125ml, $9.99
This light moisturiser is part of Simple’s “Kind to Skin” range. This means it has no perfume, no colour and no harsh chemicals. It’s great for skin that’s easily irritated and isn’t too oily, meaning it sits well under your foundation without causing all your makeup to slide off. Added bonus: it’s SPF 15+ and you can buy it here.
2. Night face cream: “QV” Face Nurturing Night Cream 50g, $18.99
QV’s night face cream honestly feels like velvet . It’s perfect for sensitive skin, absorbed quickly, and leaves your face feeling fresh and luxuriously smooth. It’s also colour and fragrance free, and you can get it right here.
3. Body moisturiser: “Sorbolene” Moisturiser With Vitamin E 1L, $7.95
It’s amazing how the most basic (and cheap!) products can be one of the best. My GP once told me that sorbolene has the perfect pH level for your skin, so not only is it a fantastic moisturiser, it can also be used in the shower instead of a body wash or soap. Grab it here.
4. Foundation: “Innoxa” Satin Sheen SPF 30+, $28.95
Foundation is a tricky thing. Matte makeup can cause already dry skin to look scaly and flaky, while some liquid foundations make oily skin look, well, even oilier. But alas, I give you your happy medium. Innoxa Satin Sheen is fragrance free and has been dermatologically tested. To me, this foundation feels like a tinted moisturiser, looks like a matte foundation, and leaves you with a healthy (not oily) glow. To try its velvety goodness go here.
