After months of award ceremonies, premieres and photo ops, I was beginning to get – dare I say it – bored. Mermaid dresses, feathers, plum lips, soft waves, snore. When you’re bombarded with images of these occasions (daily, might I add), everything begins to look the same.

Maybe that’s why the 2012 MTV Movie Awards has been a breath of fresh air. In fact, it’s been more than that. It’s given the Met Gala the sartorial finger, kicked the Cannes Film Festival in the rear and told the Oscars exactly where to go. MTV has attitude and the stars on the carpet have dutifully followed suit.

The best bit? These beauty looks are doable. You can wear them on the weekend rather than waiting to get invited to the Golden Globes. So get out your black nail polish, put on some thick eyeliner, and dig through that enormous handbag to find your neon lipstick. These kids sure know how to stand out from the rest of the fash pack.
