The current economic climate has been obvious in more ways than one at this year’s MBFWA, and as such the theatricality of shows has definitely suffered.
While in the end the shows come down to the garments, this is their debut into the world and it should be as spectacular as possible.
Enter, Bless’ed are the Meek. A laser show hushed the crowd and mesmerized us with its undulating movements and inspired a futuristic feel for the collection.
The opening pieces were reminiscent to me of Kevin Costner’s Waterworld- a sort of post apocalyptic sun beaten land, where the women are lean and strong and the garments flowing and sexy. From there, beautiful prints and bright blues added to the allusion to water and leather accents and harnesses brought an edgy dimension to the pieces.
The bronzed beauty look had an almost alien-esque appearance to it with extended washed out brows and highly contoured cheeks, and was coupled with modern cutouts and digital prints.
The label’s offering for Spring/Summer was entirely wearable, relaxed, modern and the essence of the archetypal Aussie girl- and is set to be a sure fire hit once it hits stores later this year.
