ksubi S/S 2012 gave us a snippet from their Spring collections “bad sports” alongside Summer 12/143 “The Last Resort”. Together the show was all about the past looking forward. It touched on some of Ksubi’s old roots when they were all about giving us cool street wear.
With more of a focus on their denim collection this time round we were bombarded with “triple” denim looks for both men and women. Shown to us in true ksubi style, oversized denim anoraks and denim hoodies were teamed with boyfriend jeans and denim baseball caps and denim backpacks. Although many will not brave the head to toe light denim look, I pictured separating pieces from their denim partners to create more everyday wearable outfits.
This could have been said with most of their styling especially when complete hibiscus and palm tree printed double denim outfits dramatically came down the catwalk, although it wouldn’t be Ksubi without them creating this exaggerated sense of individuality and cheek.
Their collection was “created out of a culture where kids skate, surf and create mess and noise” and this was evident with an installation, that the models entered from, of an upside down skate ramp that was inspired byNew York based artist Dan Colen
Throughout the show we were also given hints of metallic’s and leather detailing something that brought a hint of ksubi’s future back. Overall a strong collection from the bad boys of Australian fashion.
