According to Style.com, the fashion world’s designer darling Alexander Wang plans to open 14 stores across China in 2013. Ambitious? Yes, but hardly surprising considering the exponentially growing demand for designer fashion in China and Wang’s phenomenal success in a respectively short amount of time.
A signifier of how far Wang has come is evident in his model lineup. Abbey Lee-Kershaw, Gisele Bundchen, Karolina Kurkova and Natasha Poly are just a few of the many grade A girls to grace his runway.
Wang’s recent offerings seem to reflect this new chapter in his life. While this may be Fall RTW, his pieces have taken a step up in luxury and aesthetics from seasons past.
Wang described his approach to the collection this year as “a surrealistic approach to fabric manipulation…It’s this idea of shrink-wrap, lamination, covering up, lacquering.” (Style.com).
The designer plays with textures effortlessly, matching high gloss leathers with wool and tweeds, heavy fabrics with cutouts and leather with sheer.
The accessories as always, are knocked out of the ballpark in grown up gold hardware and fresh silhouettes. All in all Wang’s foray into a more adult arena has left us wanting more.
