Whether you are off on a tropical holiday, or simply day dreaming about the adventures of Brooke Shields in ‘Blue Lagoon’, there are a few things I would most certainly have in my paddle boat.
Here are my top 5 beauty sea-ssentials:
- Clear OPI Top Coat, RRP $19.95 at David Jones.Apart from keeping your manicure looking pristine by preventing chipping and giving it a high shine finish (wear your sunglasses, please) it’s as handy as WD40. My favourite use is to stop ladders in my stockings. Apply a little around the hole, let it dry, and it will prevent the hole from getting larger. Then you can use your stockings to catch crabs. It’s also great on earring hooks to reduce allergic reactions/prevent oxidation, sealing in rhinestones to prevent them falling out, sealing envelopes and threading a needle (polishing the end of the thread will make it easier to slide into the eye of the needle). My man even wanted me to add glitter to mine, to paint his fishing lures with. Apparently the super glossy, sparkling effect makes the lures extra-visible. Pretty handy if I’m going to be setting sail, right?
- Clinique Super City Block SPF30+, RRP $36 for 30ml at Clinique.com.au. This is a brilliant, oldie-but-a-goodie, daily facial sunscreen that is perfect for sensitive, dry skin. It works well as a base under makeup, whilst the 30+ leaves me feeling confident that my skin is protected from the harsh rays of the sun. The best thing is that it doesn’t leave a white cast, so your island buddies won’t mistake you for Casper the Ghost and send an arrow right through you. It would also be advisable to may send a letter in a bottle to the nearest Clinique counter for a mass shipment. They can send it via sea mail, right onto the island. Thank you.
- Portable water purifier. Apart from the fact that drinking sea water will cause a painful and lonely death from severe dehydration, I simply love drinking lots of water throughout the day. It will keep your insides very happy – and your skin will benefit from looking clearer, more hydrated, along with reduced congestion and this, in turn, keeps a smile on my face. Take that, for a beauty sea-ssential!
-Australis Mint Condition Lip Gloss, SPF 30+ in ‘Happily Ever Laughter’, RRP $8.95 at Priceline. This is a budget friendly, your-lips-but-better, glossy nude pink that boasts great sun protection and has a refreshing mint fragrance. It’s brilliant for a natural, beachy look – think about it, matte red lipstick is simply a no-go zone if you’re trying to hand-spear fish in murky sand.
-Lastly, your favorite waterproof mascara. Mine is Lancome’s Hypnose Drama Waterproof Mascara, RRP $52 for 6.5g at Myer/David Jones. A beautiful, volumising mascara with an s-shaped brush that will grab every single lash, leaving them looking plump, sultry and luscious. Perfect to grab the attention of the tribe’s elder (if you are in that sort of thing). It’s also completely waterproof, meaning that you simply will not find any raccoons inhabiting the island.
