This summer is the season of mix and match and footwear is no exception. While scouring the interweb for perfect examples of these trends, I kept coming across multiple trends in each pair of shoes. So if you’re not confident mixing textures, colours and patterns get your fingers walking online and and get your feet into some of these premixed wonders to waltz through summer care free!
If it’s got height it’s either a wedge (the perennial favourite of late) or a platform (the relative newcomer this season). So unless they are crazy high, we’ll be celebrating in relative comfort over the silly season! Elements of the espadrille, such as the hemp rope, have been thrown in for good measure as well as woven textures.
Flats are either elegant loafers, mocassins or slippers and while they have been scaled back, there still hasn’t been much of a move away from gladiator-esque sandals. Perforations and open sections are little details making flats interesting this season.
And colour, of course! It’s pretty obvious that brights are everywhere for summer. This is the perfect opportunity for devotees of black clothing (like me) to get a bit of colour happening on their feet. And enjoy it while it lasts, because before we know it, it will be impossible to find those aqua coloured heels you’ve been dreaming of!
Neutrals haven’t been entirely abandoned in the crazed throng of colour. Plenty of yummy tan (my favourite) and nude colours to compliment that super crazy coloured/patterned dress you might be wearing.
Finally, alluding to what’s on the horizon in footwear trends, exotic skins are marching back with a vengeance! While there are little bits of snakeskin here and there this season, we can expect to see more serpentine and reptilian shoes in the future.
Fun is fashion’s keyword this summer. Best foot forward ladies!
