I have been contemplating laser hair removal for awhile, but just hadn’t gotten around to it. I had also heard horror stories of burns and scarring which deterred me from actively seeking out a clinic.
Luckily for me, the wonderful team at Results Laser Clinic contacted me to trial their Laser Hair Removal and not without trepidation I agreed.
I decided the most logical first timer treatment was underarms and secretly I rejoiced at the possibility that I would never have to shave or wax under there again (or do the sneaky mid work dash to Priceline).
There are a few things to remember when going in for treatment, firstly it doesn’t work 100% for everybody. Those with light or red hair will not experience a positive treatment process- this is something to do with the laser not being able to see the hair follicles (forgive me if I don’t know the technical details).
Secondly, DONT EVER do laser treatment and then go for a two hour jog followed by a session of sun baking. You will most certainly get burns and scars.
According to Paulina Saliba, owner of Results Laser Clinic and a professional laser specialist, you have to understand all the implications of a poorly conducted treatment. There is very little regulation for Laser treatments right now which is a little terrifying but Paulina and Results Laser Clinic have launched both a Laser treatment awareness day and a education facility to spread the word to beauty technicians.
To the treatment. I went through a very thorough introduction process explaining potential side effects, treatment success rates and what to do post treatment (no sun, excessive sweating or waxing).
The sensation of the first treatment was like a warm rubber band flicking against my underarm. The sensation was painful at times but not unbearable and the treatment lasted less than five minutes. Afterwards the skin was a little tender but I was plied with gels and creams to soothe the skin.
After the first treatment, I was told I would notice the hairs growing out again which I did. Growing is actually the wrong word as they are really just falling out of the follicles. A week later and I was almost completely hairless!
I had my second treatment this week and the sensation was way less painful and even shorter than the last. I was literally in and out in fifteen minutes which was a good thing as I had to dash off to work.
The first few treatments come in four week periods and then six weeks after that, and I wholeheartedly believe by the end of the treatment I will had absolutely no regrowth…amazing!
My tips for laser hair removal:
- Make sure that the hair removal technologies provided are FDA approved.
- Ask if the clinic offers technology that assesses the treatment/technology that will work best on you.
- It is super important to make sure that the clinic provides you with a personalized service and individually tailored program developed for your skin and hair type
- Trusted clinics generally provide a free consultation and assess your hair and skin type prior to scheduled treatments
