Sheets of billowing white fabric at Manning Cartel today continued what has become a common theme for RAFW 2011. Floaty silk dresses, palazzo pants and tailored jumpsuits were reminiscent of Yves Saint Laurent’s A/W 2011 collection but the giant gold teardrop-shaped hoop earrings gave the looks a tribal feel.
While the whites were wonderful, my favourite pieces utilized richer, earthier colours. Like many of the collections we have seen at RAFW so far, the palette included mustard, terracotta and splashes of cobalt blue. Striped fabrics provided a point of difference while the digital prints were nothing short of stunning. The shimmering gold pieces were an unexpected surprise but hey, who’s complaining!?
