Romance Was Born has become synonymous with fantasy and magic. This year’s Spring Summer show was no exception. Held outside of the official RAFW schedule in order to secure their dream NSW State Library venue, Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales retold The Never Ending Story under their collection title ‘The Oracle’.
Princess Leila hair, pearl accessories and deatiling, dream catcher headpieces and feather embellishments teamed with RWB’s signature digital prints made for an intricate and mythical collection that paid homage to one of my favourite childhood stories.
I’ve always believed that RWB is a real ‘love it or hate it’ label but it would be difficult for anyone to deny that the combined creative talent of Sales and Plunkett delivers ingenious results. The detailing alone is enough to drop jaws, but it is their ability to combine so many different patterns, textures and embellishments into one cohesive collection that really has me impressed. Unlike many other designers, Romance Was Born actually tell a story instead of sucking a story dry for inspiration.
